Just minutes from the North Dakota border, residents in rural Sidney, Montana are keeping an eye on the burgeoning power of the Big Sky State's young electorate. Montanans aged 18-35 make up more than a quarter of potential voters, yet they turn out in much lower numbers than their older counterparts, according to a recent Sidney Herald article.

That's where our Rural Youth Voter Fund comes in, supporting local groups like Forward Montana which is registering people to vote across the state.

"We are registering voters. We are calling them. We will be knocking on doors," said Forward Montana Executive Director Kiersten Iwai. "We will be hosting events and candidate forums to really build a lot of energy and excitement."

Garnering media coverage in critical local news outlets like the Sidney Herald is a central part of Heartland Fund's strategy to paint a nuanced and reflective picture of rural America.
