Reporter Mike Moen with Wisconsin News Connection interviewed various groups across the state engaged in turning out young rural voters this fall. Among the issues identified were lack of school resources, health care, economic well-being, reproductive rights, and climate concerns.

The story draws on data from the Heartland Fund and our Rural Youth Voter Fund, and it offers incentives for more investment in rural youth voter engagement.

"...63% of rural youth are infrequent or uncommitted voters and they are among the least contacted by both nonpartisan and political operations," writes Moen in Wisconsin.

Our research into targeted engagement strategies, especially for promising voter populations like young voters and voters who are Black, Indigenous, or people of color, functions as part of our larger effort to engage a more robust swath of rural Americans.
